இன்று மனித உரிமை நாள்:

மனிதர்கள், மனிதர்களாகப் பிறந்த காரணத்தினால் அவர்களுக்குக் கிடைத்த அடிப்படையான, விட்டுக் கொடுக்க இயலாத, மறுக்க முடியாத சில உரிமைகளை நாம் மனித உரிமைகள் என்று அழைக்கிறோம்.

இன்று மனித உரிமை நாள், அதாவது அமெரிக்காவை தளமாக கொண்டு செயற்படுகின்ற ஐ. நா. சபையால் 10.12.1948ம் ஆண்டு மனித உரிமைகளைப் பாதூகாக்க, மனித உரிமை நாள் பிரகடனம் செய்யப்பட்டது. ஐ. நா. சபையில்; முப்பது மனித உரிமை அமைப்புகள் பல்வேறு பெயர்களில் இயங்கி வருகின்றன அம்முப்பதையும் ஒன்றிணைத்து ஐ. நா. சபையின் மனித உரிமை அமைப்பு இயங்கிவருகின்றது.

ஐ. நா. சபையின் மனித உரிமை சாசனம் இவ் உலகில் பிறந்த ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனையும் நிறம் மொழி இனம் மதம் ஆண் பெண்; வேறுபாடின்றி சமனாக மதிக்க வேண்டும் என்பதை அடிப்படையாக் கொண்டுள்ளது. ஓவ்வொரு மனிதனுக்கும் வாழ்வுரிமை, கருத்துரிமை, கல்வியுரிமை, அரசியலுரிமை, மதவுரிமை மற்றும் தம்மை தாம் பாதுகாக்கின்ற உரிமையும் உண்டு.

மேலும் தமக்கென நிலம், மொழி, கலாசாரம், பண்பாடு, நாகரிகத்தைக் கொண்ட இனம் தம்மை தாம் ஆழும் தகுதியுடையவர்கள், அவர்கள் வேற்றினத்தவரால்; இனவழிப்புக்கு உள்ளாகும் பொழுது பிரிந்து சென்று தம்மை தாம் ஆழலாம் என ஐ. நா. சபையின் மனித உரிமை சாசனம் கூறுகின்றது.



Human Rights Day:

Human rights are those rights that belong to every individual - man or woman, girl or boy, infant or elder - simply because she or he is a human being. They embody the basic standards without which people cannot realize their inherent human dignity.

On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which has become a universal standard for defending and promoting human rights. Every year on 10 December, Human Rights Day marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration. It is celebrated around the globe that "All human beings are born with equal and inalienable rights and fundamental freedoms". The 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights occurred on 10 December 2008, and the UN Secretary-General launched a year-long campaign leading up to this anniversary.

This year's Human Rights Day theme is: Inclusion and the right to participate in public life. Everybody has the right to have their voice heard and to have a role in making the decisions that shape their communities. Each one of us should be able to choose those people who will represent us in all governance institutions, to stand for public office, and to vote on the fundamental questions that shape our individual and collective destines.

Fulfillment of the right to participate in public life is fundamental to the functioning of a democratic society and an effective human rights protection system. Inclusion of ALL in decision-making processes is an essential precondition to the achievement of both.
