இன்று பாட்டுக்கு புலவனான சுப்பிரமணிய பாரதியாரின் பிறந்தநாள் .அதை நினைவூட்டும் வகையில் அவரை பற்றி சில தகவல்கள் ....
இவர் எட்டயபுரத்தில் 1882ம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 11ம் தேதி சின்னச்சாமி அய்யருக்கும் லெட்சுமி அம்மாளுக்கும் குழந்தயாக பிறந்தார். இவர் சிறுவயதிலேயே கவிபாடக்கூடிய திறமை பெற்றிருந்தார். இவர் கவி புலமையை பாராட்டி புலவர்களால் வியந்து அளித்த பட்டம் தான் 'பாரதி'. 1894-1897 வரை திருநெல்வேலி ஹிந்துகல்லூரி உயர்நிலைப்பள்ளியில் ஐந்தாம் படிவம் வரை படித்தார்.தமிழ், ஆங்கிலம், இந்தி, சமஸ்கிருதம் , வங்காள மொழி ஆகியவற்றில் புலமை பெற்றவர். 1897 ஆம் ஆண்டு செல்லம்மாளை மணந்தார்.1902 முதல் இரண்டாண்டு காலத்திற்கு எட்டையபுரம் மன்னருக்குத் தோழனாக இருந்தார்.
1904ம் ஆண்டு மதுரையில் உள்ள சேதுபதி உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் ஆசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றினார். அதே ஆண்டு மதுரையிலிருந்து வெளிவந்து கொண்டிருந்த 'விவேக பானு' என்ற பத்திரிகையில் இவரது முதல் பாடல் 'தனிமை இரக்கம்' அச்சாகி வெளியிடப்பட்டது. பின்பு சென்னையிலிருந்து வெளிவரும் 'சுதேசமித்திரன்' பத்திரிகைக்கு உதவியாசிரியரானார். சிறிது காலம் கழிந்தபின் 'சக்கர வர்த்தினி' என்ற பத்திரிகையின் ஆசிரியராக ஆனார்.
இவர் , இந்திய விடுதலைக்காகவும் , பெண் விடுதலைக்காகவும் , சாதி மறுப்பு போன்ற பல்வேறு பிரச்சனைகளுக்காக மிகவும் போராடினர். இவர் எழுதிய விடுதலை பாடல்கள் உள்ளத்தில் மிகுந்த எழுச்சி பொங்ககூடியதாக இருக்கும் . இவருடைய குயில் பாட்டு, கண்ணன் பாட்டு, பாஞ்சாலி சபதம் போன்று பல படைப்புகளை இவ்வுலகத்திற்கு அளித்துள்ளார். 1921ல் திருவல்லிகேணி கோயில் யானை ஒன்றால் தூக்கி எறியப்பட்டு, நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டு 1921 செப்டம்பர் 11ம் தேதி இவ்வுலகவிட்டு பிரிந்தார். ஆனால் அவர் படைத்த கவிதை மூலம் இன்னும் நம் உள்ளங்களிடையே வாழ்ந்து வருகிறார்.

Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiar is one of the most sensational Tamil poets,writer, Journalist, a freedom fighter and social reformer. He was born to Chinnasami Subramania Iyer and Lakshmi Ammaal on December 11, 1882 in Ettayapuram. He was educated from "The M.D.T.Hindu College". When he was young he started to write poems. He was given the title “Bharati” for his works. He was fluent in many languages including Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit, Kutchi, French and English and frequently translated works from other languages into Tamil. In 1897, He was married to his cousin Chellammal, at the age of fourteen.
In 1904, he became a Tamil teacher at Setupati High School in
Madurai and the same year he was appointed as Assistant Editor of a daily newspaper called “Swadesamitran”. In 1906, he was editor of a weekly magazine called “India”.His creations are mostly about nature. Both Bharati and Shelley were soaring spirits and loved the sparrow and the skylark respectively as symbols of freedom. His poems on freedom struggle creates a great impact in everyone’s heart. He wrote many poems like Kannan Pattu, Kuyil pattu , Panjali Shabatham etc.
Bharati was struck by an elephant at Parthasarathy temple, Thiruvallikeni, Chennai. It is an irony of fate that a temple elephant, whom he used to feed regularly, attacked him one day from which he got very sick. He however survived the mishap. A few months later his health deteriorated and he died on September 11, 1921, not yet forty years of age. The legacy of the poet however endures forever.
