அருள்மிகு நாறும்பூநாத சுவாமி திருக்கோயில் திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம் திருப்புடைமருதூர் என்னும் தலத்தில் உள்ளது. இயற்கைச் செழுமை நிரம்பியதாக மட்டுமன்றி, இறையருள் தரும் ஆன்மிகத் தலமாகவும் திருப்புடைமருதூர் உள்ளது எனலாம். ஒருபுறம் வற்றாத தாமிரபரணி, நதிக்கரையில் பிரமாண்டமான கோயில், கோயிலைச் சுற்றி நிற்கும் மரங்களில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பறவைகள் என, இயற்கையும், ஆன்மிகமும் ஒருசேர தாலாட்டும் இடம்.
திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம், அம்பாசமுத்திரம் வட்டத்தில் உள்ள வீரவநல்லூரில் இருந்து 7 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ளது திருப்புடைமருதூர். தாமிரபரணி, கருணை ஆறு, ராமநதி ஆகிய மூன்று நதிகள் சங்கமிக்கும் இங்கு அருள்மிகு நாறும்பூநாத சுவாமி, கோமதி அம்பாள் கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளது.
சுமார் 1200 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கட்டப்பட்ட இக்கோயில் மிகப் பிரமாண்டமானது. ஒரு சமயம் சிவனிடம் தேவாதி தேவர்கள் அனைவரும் காசிக்கு ஒப்பான தலத்தைக் காட்டுமாறு வேண்டினர். அவர்களின் வேண்டுதலை ஏற்ற சிவன், பிரம்மதண்டத்தை தரையில் இடும்படிக் கூறினார். அதன்படி, அவர்கள் பிரம்மதண்டத்தை இடவே, அது தாமிரபரணி ஆற்றை அடைந்து திருப்புடைமருதூரில் தற்போது தலம் வீற்றிருக்கும் பகுதிக்கு அருகே கரையில் ஏறி நின்றது. பிரம்மதண்டம் நின்ற இடமே காசிக்கு ஒப்பான தலம் என சிவன் கூறவே, இவ்விடத்திற்கு வந்த தேவர்கள் பிரம்மதண்டத்தை பூஜை செய்து சிவனது அருளைப்பெற்றனர்.
பிற்காலத்தில், இப்பகுதியை வீரமார்த்தாண்ட மன்னர் ஆட்சி செய்து வந்த போது மருதமரங்கள் நிறைந்த வனமாக இருந்த இங்கு வேட்டைக்கு வந்தார். மான் ஒன்றினை கண்ட மன்னன் அதனை தனது அம்பினால் வீழ்த்தினார். அம்பினால் காயம்பட்ட மான் அங்கிருந்து தப்பி ஓடி ஓர் மருதமரத்தின் பொந்திற்குள் சென்று மறைந்தது. மானை மீட்க அம்மருதமரத்தை வெட்டும்படி மன்னர் உத்தரவிட்டார். அதன்படி, சேவகர்கள் கோடரியால் மரத்தை வெட்டவே அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து ரத்தம் பீறிட்டது. பின், மன்னர் அவ்விடத்தில் பார்த்தபோது தலையில் கோடரியால் வெட்டுப்பட்ட நிலையில் சிவலிங்கம் இருந்தது. மான் வடிவில் வந்து அருள்புரிந்தது சிவன்தான் என அசரீரி கேட்கப்பெற்ற மன்னர், அவரது உத்தரவுப்படி இவ்விடத்தில் ஆலயம் எழுப்பி வழிபட்டார் எனப்படுகிறது .
இத்தலத்தில் அருள்புரியும் சிவபெருமான், தலையில் வெட்டுப்பட்ட கோடரியின் தடம், மார்பில், மானின் மீது பாய்ந்த அம்பு பட்ட தடத்துடன் காட்சி தருகிறார். காயம்பட்ட சுயம்புமூர்த்தி என்பதால் அவரது காயத்தை ஆற்றிடும் பொருட்டு சந்தனாதி தைலம் மட்டுமே பூசி பூஜை செய்யப்படுகிறது. சுவாமிக்கு வலப்புறம் தனிச்சன்னதியில் வீற்றிருந்து அருள்பாலிக்கும் கோமதியம்பாள், கோமாள் மலையின் கோமதி நதியில் இருக்கிறாள் என அசரீரி கேட்கப்பெற்று அதன்படி அந்நதியில் இருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்டு பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப் பட்டவளாக ருத்ராட்சை மேனியை உடையவளாக பொலிவுற அருட்காட்சி தருகிறாள். சுவாமிக்கு முன்வலப்புறத்தில் பிரம்மதண்டம் தனியே பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.
மேலும் இக்கோவிலில் இன்னொரு சிறப்பு இங்கு சாய்ந்தநிலையில் சிவலிங்கம் உள்ளது. இதற்கு காரணம் ஒரு முறை சிறந்த சிவபக்தரான கருவூர் சித்தர் இத்தலத்தில் அருள்புரியும் சிவனை தரிசிக்க வந்தார். அவர் தாமிரபரணியின் வடகரைக்கு வந்தபோது, ஆற்றில் பெறும் வெள்ளப்பெருக்கு ஏற்பட்டது. இதனால், ஆற்றைக்கடக்க முடியாத அவர், அக்கரையில் இருந்து கொண்டே தென்கரையில் மலர்கள் பூத்துக்குலுங்கிய மருதமரங்கள் நிறைந்த வனத்தின் மையத்தில் வீற்றிருந்த சிவபெருமானை நோக்கி "நாறும் பூவின் நடுவே நிற்பவனே நினை தரிசிக்க எனக்கு அருள்புரிவாயோ' என மனமுருகி வேண்டி பாடினார். அவரது பாடலில் மயங்கிய சிவன், தனது இடச்செவியில் கைவைத்து ஒருபுறம் சாய்வாக திரும்பி, ரசித்து கேட்டார் பின்பு தன்னை நினைத்து ஆற்றைக்கடக்கும் படி கருவூர் சித்தரிடம் சிவன் கூறிடவே, அதன்படி ஆற்றைக் கடந்த கருவூரார் அவரை வணங்கி அருள் பெற்றார். இவ்வாறு, கருவூர் சித்தரின் பாடலை செவிசாய்த்து கேட்டதால், இங்கு சிவலிங்கம் இடப்புறம் சாய்வாக திரும்பிய நிலையில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார்.

Sri Narumbunatha Swamy Temple - Thiruppudaimarudhur:
Sri Narumbunatha Swamy Temple is at Thiruppudaimarudhur, in Tirunelveli District. Thiruppudaimarudhur is located near veeravanalllur. The surrounding locations of this temple are very beautiful. The temple nadavanam adjacent to the temple itself is a declared bird sanctuary, though tiny.
This is the kadai (last) marudhur temple of the three Marudha temples – Sri Sailam, Thiruvidai Marudhur and this one where the Marudha tree is present as the sthala viruksham. This massive temple with excellent stone sculptures is located on the bank of Thamirabarani River in a beautiful location. The temple has all the four styles of temple architectures namely Pandiya, Chera, Chola and Vijayanagara which add beauty for this glorious Temple.
The history of this temple was that the Devas – those in the celestial world – once begged the Lord to show them a place on earth equal to Kasi-Varanasi. Lord asked them to place His Brahmmadanda on the floor which moved towards River Tambiraparani and stood at Tirupudaimarudur where the temple stands today. Lord Shiva said that the place where the Brahmmadanda stopped was the place equal to Kasi.
The region was under the rule of Veeramarthanda then. He came to this place dense with Mardha trees for hunting. He targeted a deer which hid itself in the hole of a tree. The king ordered to cut the tree to get the deer out. But blood came out of the tree where the king found a Shivalinga with a hit on the head caused by the instrument. He heard a voice saying that Shiva himself graced them through the deer. He built the temple as directed by the Lord. In this temple Lord Shiva, a swayambumurthi graces leaning on a side slightly. There are scars of a sickle cut on the head and a hit of deer on the chest, Hence no abhishek is performed but only an oil application instead.
One more Greatness of this temple is that. Karuvur Chithar, celebrated Shiva devotee came to this place to worship Shiva. When he reached the northern bank of Tambiraparani, the river was in spate and could not cross the river to reach the temple. He spoke to Lord Shiva saying, “being in the midst of Marudha trees spilling fragrance from their flowers, can’t you help me to reach you.” Lord just leaned on a side to hear Chithar more clearly keeping his hand on the ears. The Lord advised Karuvur Chithar to simply cross the river with his thoughts resting on Him. Chithar did so and worshipped the Lord to his full satisfaction. As the Lord leaned on a side to hear Chithar, He is found leaning on a side.
Mother Gomathi Amman on the left of Lord’s shrine is brought from Komal hills as directed by a voice. She has the Rudraksha body and graces the devotees. A Brahmmadanda – staff-is also installed before the Lord on the right side.
